Thales to Empower Thailand's Railways by Driving Efficiency and Sustainability
- Thales has successful equipped 50 locomotives from CRRC with its new European Train Control System (ETCS) in Thailand.
- hales has signed this contract in January 2022 with CRRC Qishuyan to deliver the new ETCS on-board system on CRRC trains to run on the rail network of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
- This project is one of the biggest contracts for the Thales RailBot鈩 ETCS On-Board Unit System.
Thales has successfully delivered its new ETCS on-board system on Thailand鈥檚 railway, helping improve its performance. The system enables Thai rail operators the possibility of upgrading to a higher ETCS level at any time in the future, while the modular product design enables flexible integration into the vehicle, which brings key advantages in retrofit projects.
This major project reinforced the strong relationship Thales has with CRRC, the world鈥檚 largest rolling stock manufacturer by revenue. Thales has already delivered ETCS on-board systems to CRRC for 8 shunting locomotives of the Berlin S-Bahn. In the Czech Republic, 3 locomotives were jointly equipped for the train operator LEO Express.
With extensive ETCS expertise but also a high market presence in Thailand, Thales has been able to win CRRC Qishuyan鈥檚 trust for equipping the new locomotive fleet in Thailand. It is the sixth rail project in Thailand for Thales, but the first with a pure focus on on-board devices.
This is another excellent reference and opportunity for future collaborations with the Chinese rolling stock powerhouse and demonstrates Thales鈥檚 strong commitment for creating safe and efficient rail transport journeys in Thailand.
