Cebu Pacific Air soars with Thales Electronic Flight Bag solution
Leading Philippine carrier Cebu Pacific Air (PSE: CEB), currently operates a fleet of 60 aircraft comprised of A320, A330, ATR 72-500 and ATR 72-600. Between 2018 and 2022, CEB expects delivery of 7 A321ceo, 32 A321neo, and 8 ATR 72-600. With this anticipated expansion, Cebu Pacific has decided to invest in pilot operations, to ensure that flight crew day to day operations, and their mission management are at the cutting edge. As a result they have selected the Aviobook Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution to digitise all their current flight dispatch documentation.
Key Points
- Cebu Pacific Air will equip their flight crews with Thales Aviobook
- Full implementation of EFB solutions enables increased situational awareness and optimised flight collaboration with airline operation centres
- This contract has further broadened Thales鈥檚 expertise in avionics and airborne connectivity.
Following the acquisition of Aviovision by Thales in 2016, the two entities bring combined capabilities to EFB solutions for airlines with a broader range of operational applications, leveraging Thales鈥 expertise in avionics, airborne connectivity, data analytics, cybersecurity and ground support platforms.
鈥淥ur investment in the EFB aligns with our goal of operational excellence through the introduction of systems that enhance safety and efficiency in flight operations. With the EFB, aircraft performance software and aeronautical charts are readily available, flight plans are constantly updated, and aircraft documentation and procedures are easily accessed. This is important when time-critical decisions need to be made and executed in the flight deck.鈥 Capt. Sam Avila, Vice President-Flight Operations, Cebu Pacific Air
鈥淎n integrated application, both on the flight deck as well as in the operations centre, is the key driver to efficiency and ultimately, to sustainable and profitable growth.鈥
Eric Huber, Thales Vice President for Avionics Services Worldwide
Pilots use Aviobook to prepare and optimise their flight in collaboration with the Airline Operation Centre. Cebu Pacific rolled-out 5th generation iPad tablets that contain the pilots鈥 EFB, an information management suite that helps flight crews perform the necessary tasks to fly and navigate an aircraft. In addition, the EFB solution will help Cebu Pacific Air reduce its environmental footprint and manage its operational costs.
The widened scope of the extended partnership into Asia has further broadened Thales鈥 expertise in avionics and airborne connectivity.
