Shift2Rail is a collaborative, multi-company programme of work part-funded under , the European Commission's mechanism for funding Research and Innovation from 2014 – 2020.
The programme is managed by the Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking, a public-private partnership based in Brussels.
Shift2Rail was designed to help the rail sector lower life-cycle costs by 50%, double railway capacity and increase service reliability and by 50%. The consortium of partners involved covers the whole of the rail sector, from infrastructure managers to train operators.
Working together, the aim is to create standard approaches across Europe to the biggest challenges and future technologies in the industry.
