NAVAIDs FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
As NAVAIDs continue to evolve, our customers are discovering the value of investing in high performance, digital, compact, low-consumption and low-maintenance systems.
Thales鈥 comprehensive solutions are built for today and tomorrow - delivering innovative capabilities at unmatched value to support the modernization of the United States鈥 navigation infrastructure.
We are also the Prime Contractor to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the latest generation of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), the ILS 420, which provides precise vertical and horizontal navigation guidance to pilots for a smooth, safe approach and landing.
The FAA鈥檚 VHF Omni Directional Radio Range (VOR) network and over half of their Distance Measure Equipment (DME) technology have been provided and continue to be supported by Thales. We鈥檝e also provided VORs to the U.S. Air Force (USAF), and TACANs to the USAF and U.S. Navy.
Our expertise in en-route NAVAIDs is reinforced with a 5th generation of DME/VOR/TACAN equipment, which are enhanced with digital capabilities for increased efficiency, safety and reliability 鈥 delivering lower energy consumption and reduced lifecycle costs.
We鈥檝e honed our expertise by fielding more systems than all other TACAN suppliers combined for military customers across the globe.
Thales has also supported the USAF鈥檚 efforts to establish air superiority and support ground combat units that require the use of secure airfields in remote and challenging areas with our Deployable 鈥 Instrument Landing System (D-ILS).
Our recent expansion of our navigation aid offerings to include additional 鈥渕an-portable鈥 technology further supports our customers鈥 contingency air operations and evolving mobility needs.
