NAVIGATION LANDING AIDS

Thales’ Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) are installed in over 700 airports worldwide. 99% of U.S. commercial airports rely on Thales technologies to assist pilots during landings – enabling safer passenger journeys.

We are also the Prime Contractor to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the latest generation of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), the ILS 420, which provides precise vertical and horizontal navigation guidance to pilots for a smooth, safe approach and landing.

EN-ROUTE NAVIGATION AIDS

Thales is a Tactical air navigation (TACAN) leader and trusted navigation aid supplier, with a legacy of supporting large-scale government programs for over 80 years.

The FAA’s VHF Omni Directional Radio Range (VOR) network and over half of their Distance Measure Equipment (DME) technology have been provided and continue to be supported by Thales. We’ve also provided VORs to the U.S. Air Force (USAF), and TACANs to the USAF and U.S. Navy.

Our expertise in en-route NAVAIDs is reinforced with a 5th generation of DME/VOR/TACAN equipment, which are enhanced with digital capabilities for increased efficiency, safety and reliability – delivering lower energy consumption and reduced lifecycle costs.

MILITARY/TACTICAL NAVIGATION AIDS

Thales is a trusted principle supplier of mobile and deployable military navigation aids that have supported increasingly agile operations for armed forces around the world – offering solutions for fixed, shipboard, mobile, man-portable, and airborne applications.

We’ve honed our expertise by fielding more systems than all other TACAN suppliers combined for military customers across the globe.

Thales has also supported the USAF’s efforts to establish air superiority and support ground combat units that require the use of secure airfields in remote and challenging areas with our Deployable – Instrument Landing System (D-ILS).

Our recent expansion of our navigation aid offerings to include additional “man-portable” technology further supports our customers’ contingency air operations and evolving mobility needs.
